Soil Moisture Behavior in Relation to Topography and Land Use for Two Andean Colombian Catchments

چکیده

Understanding the soil moisture behavior in relation to land use tropical Andean mountain catchments is essential for comprehending water fluxes, ecohydrological relations and hydrological dynamics this understudied ecosystem. Soils are a key factor of these ecosystems, especially reference level regulation anthropogenic activities that can alter interactions, generate physical, chemical biological imbalances. In study, we investigated relationship between precipitation, content (SWC) flow at different pedon scales, hillslope microcatchment scales subjected uses. The results showed soils uses, topographical conditions scale. At scale, higher with low variability depth; high throughout study period was registered forest > pasture coffee agroforestry systems. topographic wetness index (TWI), despite its adjusted interpretation humidity poor predictor Pedon has close precipitation behavior, prolonged dry humid periods. studied tend present udic regimes approximately 67 accumulative days per year. mean responds monthly consequences cover changes as well how interacts components hydric balance allows an understanding complex interactions natural microcatchments under

Relationship between topography, land use and soil moisture in loess hillslopes

The relationship between topography, land use, and topsoil moisture storage is investigated for a small catchment with undulating deep loess hilslopes in the south of the Netherlands. For a period of 10 months, soil moisture profiles have been measured weekly at 15 locations throughout the catchment. A Generalized Additive Model was employed to find relationships between the various factors inf...

Dissolved phosphorus transport from soil to surface water in catchments with different land use

Diffuse phosphorus (P) export from agricultural land to surface waters is a significant environmental problem. It is critical to determine the natural background P losses from diffuse sources, but their identification and quantification is difficult. In this study, three headwater catchments with differing land use (arable, pasture and forest) were monitored for 3 years to quantify exports of d...

Root Zone Soil Moisture Retrieval Using Streamflow and Surface Moisture Data Assimilation in Nested Catchments

Correct knowledge of soil moisture is important for improving the prediction of coupled land surface atmosphere interactions. This is due to the control that soil moisture exerts on the latent and sensible heat flux transfer between the land surface and atmosphere. Because of this strong dependence on moisture availability, improved atmospheric prediction requires correct initialisation of soil...
